"The saddest thing about any man is that he be ignorant."

                                        - Alfred the Great

This workshop covers Britain's settlement by the Anglo-Saxons and the Scots. Specifically, the workshop focuses on:

  • The Roman withdrawal from Britain

  • The Scot invasion from Ireland

  • Anglo-Saxon invasions, settlements and kingdoms, including their village life.

  • Anglo-Saxon art and culture including storytelling and the epic myth Beowulf

Watch the hall transformed into a Saxon village, and learn what life was like for Anglo-Saxons: their art, culture and superstitions.

See your pupils taking up their ploughs and getting to work farming the land, spotting dragons in the sky, and helping the village craftspeople make beautiful clothes, intricate jewelry and sturdy armour.

Go to battle with another clan, and return triumphant to the great hall of the village Jarl, who will feast you and order revelry and storytelling - listen to his bards tell you the story of Beowulf, our most famous hero!

This workshop brings the hardships and the heroism of Anglo-Saxon Britain straight to your School Hall!
